I know a few people who have been sacked due to no fault of their own, but I only know one person who has taken their sacking further. They did so because they were blatantly unfairly dismissed, and were seeking compensation for that. I know many people who have gotten divorced, and every single one of them have ended up battling it out in court for every last cent. They might not be fighting for their marriage back, or claiming it's ending to be unfair, but they sure are fighting for compensation, and often get it. I think the comparison makes zero sense.

Grace, What an excellent article - undoubtedly one of the best I've seen in a newspaper on industrial relations. In my own consulting area - media skills training and strategic p.r. counsel - my approach is to tell it like it is. You certainly did that in your summation of the Qantas dispute.

Best regards,
David Williams
